Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories

by Jeff Kinney

Written by the author of 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid', this selection of short spooky stories will have your little one giggling! They're quite short, with lots of illustrations too - your child might feel confident enough to read them alone, depending on their reading level.

Read independently or with a grown-up, this book gets a strong recommendation from the littlest junior editor (age 7)!

Mirabelle Gets up to Mischief

by Harriet Muncaster

Written by the creator of Isadora Moon, this is her naughty half-witch, half-fairy cousin Mirabelle.

We enjoyed the chaos that ensured when Mirabelle brings out her fairy wand! She definitely enjoys bringing a dose of mischief to proceedings.

A magical, (half) witchy read for your little ones - at Halloween or any time.

Book cover for Frankenkitty

Frankenkitty

by Maudie Powell-Tuck (author) & Mini Grey (illustrator)

A great spooky(ish!) picture book, perfect for Halloween. The illustrations are beautiful and the writing style is humorous and very engaging. Our 7 year old was captivated by this tale set in a 'darketty dark castle'. Is Frankenkitty monstrous? Or just misunderstood...

Skulkmoor

by Hana Tooke

Described by Bookshop.org as "Wednesday meets The Secret Garden with a touch of Knives Out in this gorgeously gothic and mysterious adventure about family secrets, devilishly bad deeds, and a touch of murder . . ."

Our 9 year old junior editor has been captivated by this mystery!

Book cover for Lottie Brooks's Twelve Disasters of Christmas

Lottie Brooks's Twelve Disasters of Christmas

by Katie Kirby

Our junior editor read this in less than 24 hours! In her words "this book was EXTREMELY funny!". Her favourite disastrous story was 'Toby's Christmas Prank...That Went a Bit Wrong', and she also found the idea of bringing home a live turkey - in October no less - to be hilarious in story 12.

All in all, a strong recommend!
